About the Author

Irene González Rosales is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas. She taught for 30 years in the Houston area and has been writing stories for children for over 20 years. She has a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with certifications in Spanish and Journalism. Her master’s degree is in Elementary Education with a certification in Bilingual Education.

The author’s passion started at age 12 when a wonderful teacher inspired in her a love for writing. Irene worked hard to do the same for her students, utilizing literature and writing in every aspect of teaching. Her students kept journals for each subject. Irene’s belief is that even science and math are great vehicles for writing, and that journaling in these subjects can be used to help children make sense of concepts.

Irene currently resides in San Antonio, Texas and enjoys nature walks, reading, writing and traveling. She cherishes every minute of time spent with family.

About the Illustrators

Melba Goodman is a graduate of Uof H Clearlake in Houston, Texas. She Taught Elementary and secondary school art in the Houston area before retiring. Melba lives in Deer Park, Texas where she volunteers at her church and delights in doing arts and crafts, especially with her grandchildren.

Somalee Banerjee is an artist and a doctor. Somalee's work centers around allegories of the intersectionality of craft, medicine and the post-colonial South Asian attachment to embellishment. Her recent work draws on her experiences as an internal medicine doctor, with acrylic paintings of organs referencing anatomy to create altars to health and disease with embellishments that echo the popular aesthetic of jewelry and clothing in South Asia. The artist has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Sam Fox School of Art at Washington University (2008) and a subsequent MD from Washington University.
